A Father’s Love: Day 2

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3

Have you been doubting the Father’s love for you? Have you ever faced circumstances that cause you to say, “If God did truly love me, how could He allow this to happen to me?” Maybe you were mistreated by your earthly father, and so now you are viewing God through those same lenses.

Maybe you experienced the death of your child, or a partner who deeply disappointed you, or something about which you prayed, and your prayer went unanswered—so you thought. Possibly you did not verbalize it at all, but deep down in your heart you just allowed those thoughts of, “How could this happen if God really loved me?” to reverberate in your soul—and now you’re not so sure about God’s love for you because you have allowed those thoughts to fester.

Jeremiah 31:3 is God’s assurance of His love for you. Though this statement was spoken to Israel,  the love it describes is God’s love for every believer. God loves you with an everlasting love, and this love that He has is like a healing balm for the broken soul. It’s like a river that washes the stress from our bodies as soon as we enter it. The love that the Father has for you can never run out or run dry.

The Father’s everlasting love has always been there and will always be there. There is nothing you can do to make God love you any more than He does right now and there is nothing that you can do to make God love you any less than He does right now. I know  It may be difficult for you to comprehend this kind of unconditional love and acceptance—it’s difficult for me too, but we just have to rest in it and let it have its way with us.

No matter what has (or hasn’t) happened in your life or how many questions you have about it, know this: you are still perfectly loved by the Most High God. Rest in this truth!
