I Surrender: Day 5

I find that living a surrendered life is not the best way to live; it is the only way to live. Nothing else works. All other approaches lead to frustration, disappointment and self-destruction!

In the military, surrender means defeat but as followers of Jesus, it means victory over whatever is hindering our Christian life. We lose nothing when we yield to Him but we gain everything – peace, guidance, victory, the assurance of His presence, etc.

I’ve been asked this question many times: “Why do I need to surrender to God when I have all I need?” And I get that. You have the degree, the car, the house, a loaded bank account, and the family you’ve always dreamed of. And my answer to that question is very simple: We put too much emphasis on our success here on earth and forget where it most matters. I wasted many years of life doing my own thing, and though I had many things that should have made me happy, I have never felt so unaccomplished and lost in life!

When we think of the word surrender, immediately we think of someone controlling our lives. But surrender for me is about giving back my life to the one who gave it to me in the first place. The scripture says that “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations” Jeremiah 1:5. That simply means that God knows everything about me; from the beginning to the end. It simply means that my life has been divinely orchestrated from the start! Now, if that is so, why not surrender to Him? Doing my own thing would be foolish. Surrendering to the Lord would save me the unnecessary steps that I would have to take in life.

Many of you are experiencing unnecessary stress, disappointment and frustration in life because you have yet to surrender your life to God. God knows exactly what your life is going to be. He knows where you are going to live and what role He has for you. You don’t have to take my word for it, you can “come taste and see” that living a surrendered life is the only way to live! You may not like the hand of cards that God may deal with you, but when you surrender to God you make it easier for Him to use and direct your life in the way He intended to in the first place.

My prayer for you is that you would come to the realization that living a surrendered life is the only way to live. Spend some time with the Lord today. Ask Him to help you give your ‘yes’ to Him.
