The Praying Woman: Why do we need to pray?

John 15:4-6

Throughout the bible, the Lord calls every believer to a life of prayer no matter how long he or she has been saved! Prayer is essential to the Christian life because it’s our way of communicating with God.

Without prayer, a Christian is basically dead. In the same way, if a branch loses its connection to the vine, the branch basically loses its supply of life, gets withered and dies. It is very important to establish a proper relationship with the Lord, for we are the branches and He is the vine. If you do not stay connected through prayer on a daily basis, sooner or later you will be like a branch that withers away and dies.  Disconnection from the vine causes the inability to bear fruit. You may still perform religious duties and keep rules such as attending church meetings, studying the Bible and praying outwardly, but in fact, all that bears no relation to God. When you have a life that is prayerless, you often speak and act according to your own ideas, and naturalness, and it is difficult for you to act in harmony with His will. A life without prayer is dead! Take it from a girl who has been there.

In order to walk in the will of the Lord and bear much fruit, you must constantly live before Him through prayer. Conversely, if we live a prayerless life, cling to the world and live in the enjoyment of the flesh, then we will have no proper relationship with Him, nor will we have the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Where are you with your prayer life? Does it need to be reignited? This week is the perfect time to get that going. Wherever you are right now with your prayer life, it can get better. If you are willing to put in the work to reignite your prayer life, see the prompt and tip below. Even if you’ve found a good rhythm in your daily prayers, I encourage you to join in.

Your tip for today:

Find a prayer partner. Being in the company of someone who wants to pray really helps.

Prompts for today:

  1. Surrender your life again to God. Ask Him to give you the grace to press into prayer.
  2. If you already have a prayer partner, share and pray with that person. If you don’t have a prayer partner, ask the Lord who you should partner with and get connected with that person.
