A Father’s Love: Day 5

“Give thanks to God, for He is good. His love is eternal” – Psalm 136:1.

Last week, our devotional author Angelisa Plummer explored A Father’s Love. Our dedicated readers would have noticed that day 5 wasn’t posted. We’ll share day 5 today and I, theanointedwriter, will be your devotional author for the next few days. Let’s pick up with day 5 of A Fater’s Love.

Here in Psalm 136, the psalmist earnestly pleads with us to give thanks to God. Thanks are the least that we can offer, and these we ought to freely give.  The Psalmist calls us to praise God for all his goodness to us.

We should thank God because I am sure that we’ve all seen; proved and tasted His goodness and love for us—no matter where we find ourselves in life. Like Spurgeon said, “He is good beyond all others: indeed, he alone is good in the highest sense; he is the source of good, the good of all good, the sustainer of good, the perfecter of good, and the rewarder of good.” —and that is why He deserves the constant gratitude of His people.

The Psalmist then goes on to say, “His love is eternal” God is not only just good, but His love also endures forever —and we should give Him praise for that. Our God is good and His love endures forever. What joy that there is love, love from our heavenly Father,  enduring love, love enduring forever. Our Father makes His love eternal because He knows that we will always need it. He knows that we’ll always try it. He knows that we are going to always be praying for it. He knows that His love is something that we are going to always need. Therefore, let us forever sing and tell of it.

The love of our Father never ends and will always be given to His people. His love is filled with grace; it’s loyal and is like a covenant love unto His people. Understand that our heavenly Father remains ready to give His love to all who seek it. He doesn’t hide His love from us or waits for us to be perfect to show it to us.

God, your Father is actually waiting for you. You who have wandered away from His arms. You who are hurting. You who suffer from neglect and abandonment. You who have been rejected. You who find it hard to forgive those who caused you deep pain. God, your Father is waiting for you. He’s waiting to use His love to break shackles off of the feet of anyone who is bound so they can be free —and for that, we should always give Him thanks.

No matter where you are now or how far you’ve wandered from His love; give thanks, for He is good and His love that keeps you is eternal.
