The mind is such an interesting thing… Do you realise that when you are not doing well mentally it’s hard for you to function properly in life?
Your body responds to the way you think, feel, and act. This is one type of “mind/body connection.” When you are stressed, anxious, or angry, your body reacts in a way that might tell you that something isn’t right. For example, you might develop high blood pressure or a stomach ulcer after a particularly stressful event, such as a breakup or death of a loved one.
Imagine a person’s mind that’s consistently filled with doubt, anxiety, stress and negative thoughts. That person sounds a bit unhealthy, and I also cannot imagine this person’s life being peaceful. Now, imagine a person with a mind that’s stayed on Christ; a person who does not allow doubt, anger, anxiety and stress to take root in his/her mind. This person sounds much healthier to me, and they may actually be experiencing God’s peace.
Isaiah 26:3 tells us that God keeps those whose minds are stayed on Him in perfect peace. When we keep our minds fixed on God, we are flooded with inner peace – an inexplicable peace… a perfect peace that only comes from above.
In order to experience this kind of peace, you must keep your mind fixed on Christ. A mind that is fixed on Christ is not one that is filled with worry, anxiety, fear, doubt and anger. A mind that is fixed on Christ is instead filled with things that are true, just, pure, lovely and admirable. Be careful of the thoughts you allow your mind to entertain. Yes, thoughts may seem to appear out of nowhere sometimes, but you have a choice of whether to allow your mind to dwell on them or turn your focus back to Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith! (Hebrews 12:1-2)
God’s Word speaks a great deal about our minds and thoughts. It gives us important instructions on how to keep a healthy mind that will glorify Him:
- Isaiah 26:3 – “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You Because he trusts in You.”
- Colossians 3:2 – “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
- Romans 12:2 – “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
These are but a few verses that speak about the importance of keeping our minds fixed on God.
Choose to actively keep your mind on Christ. You may ask, “How can I do that?” The first step is to accept Christ as your Lord & Savior, to allow Him to change you! Are you a Christian yet? If no, then consider doing that so you can have a personal relationship with Him! After that, become a student of the Word, and daily submit to the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit.
