Find Contentment in 2018 – Choose Joy

If there is no enemy within the enemy outside can do you no harm.

I must say that 2018 is off to a GREAT start. Yes, I know that we’re just 20 days in but that’s the beauty of this blog post about contentment. Length of time doesn’t define or affect a thing when you choose to live now.

2018 started off and I suffered from 2017 jet lag for the first two weeks. I think that had a lot to do with my job. I am a media practitioner. More specifically, a Radio Producer at the number one gospel station in Jamaica (That’s a Big Deal). And, December is usually a busy period for us. So, being on the road all the time and planning for work doesn’t leave much time for reflection.

Choose Joy

I did a blog post recently about Just Doing it in 2018. You can find that here. I spoke about how we can have the life we want by just doing the things that will help to get the life that we want. Sounds simple right? Well, I have added ‘choosing joy‘ to that. And it wasn’t any kind of grand revelation, it was something that just occurred to me.

I saw moments of myself captured on camera. In those moments I was truly in my happy moments. Completely joyful and content. I have a tendency to want to control the timeline of my life and everything that happens in that timeline. But those moments were captured on days when I just chose to be happy and content with wherever God had me.

The Truth about Contentment

I found that real contentment occurs when you accept the deck of cards that life has placed in your hands. It won’t necessarily be the deck that you like. And it doesn’t mean that you cannot change it. But, while you go through the process of playing the hand to win the game, make the most of that hand.

I find that many persons focus on the destination they desire to be at but totally forget the journey. The journey is just as significant as the destination. Don’t focus on the destination to the point of discrediting the lessons of the journey. The journey is not an awful place or punishment. It is a growing place. Grow through it.

How to get to Contentment

Choose Joy

Choosing joy ultimately means finding happiness in whatever situation you are in. It is making the most of your situation or position in life. When you choose joy you are able to appreciate the journey.

Get Comfortable in Discomfort

I’ve realized that a true indicator of growth is when you’ve learned to get comfortable in your discomfort zones. Instead of complaining about how uncomfortable something is; why not grow through it? The more you condition your mind to commit to working through it; the more comfortable you become. Soon you will wonder if that is the same situation you were so worked up about.

Take Care of You

Eat right. Work out. Filter negativity. Read. Sing. Go out. Do the things you love to do. Dress well. Show up. Show out.

The Wrap Up

These are just a few thoughts that have been on my mind. Let us all vow to make 2018 our best year yet! Live Love and Choose Joy!

God Bless You.
