Free Indeed: Day 1

Time and time again I am reminded of my past. Sometimes things happen and right away I am reminded of either the things I have done wrong or the things that have happened to me. With that comes condemnation, as feelings of guilt, shame and unworthiness plague my mind.

I am bombarded with the thought that God really didn’t forgive me, that I am unworthy, and that I would never truly be accepted by people if I should share my story. But one day, God said to me, “Whoever I set free is truly free.” That moment was one where I felt like my past no longer had a grip on me. God continued speaking truth to my heart. He said, “My grace has released you from the shame of your past, receive it and continue to walk in it.” From that day onward, whenever the feelings of shame, guilt and unworthiness try to weigh me down, I respond with the truth that God spoke over me. “I am free because the Son has set me free. His grace has released me from the shame of my past, and I will continue to walk in freedom.”

This is the same for you. I don’t know what your past is like. I don’t know what condemning thoughts about your past plague your mind. I don’t know what feelings hang over your head. One thing I do know is that whatever it is, because of God’s grace, you have been released from the shame of your past. Your past is forgiven and nothing can reverse that!

The enemy pops up at some odd times with his lying lips. He is the father of lies. He not only speaks what is false, but he also hides what is true. His plan is to keep you from seeing the freedom you have in Christ Jesus so you can’t walk in it. He comes with a voice so loud shouting false beliefs over God’s people saying:

Which of these lies have you believed? For every lie that you have believed I want to tell you that:

Now it’s your turn to take these sacred words and turn them into affirmations. With every lie that the enemy shouts over you, use these affirmations to testify of God’s truth:

  1. I am affectionately loved by God. [Ephesians 2:4]
  2. I am completely forgiven. [1 John 1:9]
  3. I am good enough. [1 Peter 2:9]
  4. I am worthy. [John 3:16]

Take a few minutes to prayerfully ponder those sacred words.
