Free Indeed: Day 3

As far as the east is from the west… that’s how far God has removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:12)

God uses “as far as the east is from the west” to describe how forgiven we are, and how far removed our sins are from us. We can’t see the beginning from the end! It’s simply, never-ending – Just like His forgiveness towards us. I bet like me, you often have a hard time grasping just how forgiving our God is when we confess our sins to Him. That’s likely because we are far less forgiving than He will ever be.

God does not hold our sins against us nor does he use it to blackmail us into doing the things He wants. When He says you are forgiven, believe Him. In fact, He is the one that said, “I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.” (Isaiah 43:25)

What does it mean that He “will not remember” our sins? Does God forget our sins? We know that God knows all things so it is impossible for Him to forget anything in the human sense. It is not that our sins slip God’s mind somehow. It is that he chooses not to remember them. When we receive God’s forgiveness, He does not hold our sins against us or treat us according to what our sins deserve but treats us with grace and Love. And if you have any doubt about that, check out what 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For our sake, He made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” God not only makes a payment for our sin but puts our sin completely out of view and replaces it with His own righteousness.

Today, God wants to put your mind at ease. For those walking around with the weight from the thoughts of unbelief and doubt about their forgiveness in Christ Jesus, today is the day to put that weight down. I do not know what you believe about forgiveness, but I know there are a few things that God has to say about forgiveness in his word:

  1. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins…” 1 John 1:9
  2. “I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.” 1 John 2:12
  3. “When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins…” Colossians 2:13

Today, if you are struggling to grasp just how forgiven you are in Christ Jesus, I pray that God will help your unbelief, so you can experience true freedom.

Pray this prayer aloud:

Father, would you help my unbelief. Release the revelation of how truly forgiven I am. I give this weight that I have been carrying around to you in exchange for the freedom to walk in this forgiveness I have in Christ Jesus. Would you help me to believe that my sins have been forgiven, removed from me, and you remember them no more? In Jesus’ name. Amen.
