Gentle Reminders: Day 2

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

One thing I am reminded of in this season of my life is that, though the desires of my heart (those that align with God’s will) have yet to be met, I don’t have to worry. Instead of worrying, I can choose to actively trust God and delight myself in Him, and you can do the same too — Don’t worry or fret! Once God promises something He will deliver. It doesn’t matter if He is four days late, He will come through!

Make God the joy and rejoicing of your spirit. The world delights in carnal things; do not envy them if they are allowed to take their fill in such vain things. Look to the better delight, and fill yourself with your more sublime portion. Make God the great delight of your soul. Find satisfaction and joy in. Experience Him as the one who satisfies the longings of the human heart.

When you delight yourself in the Lord, Psalm 37:4 says, “He will give you the desires of your heart” — Literally, the “askings,” or the “requests” of your heart. What you really “desire” will be granted to you. That is, the fact that you seek your happiness in him will regulate your desires so that you will ask only those things which are in His will for you. The fact that you do find your happiness in him will be a reason why he will grant your desires. The fact that you love your father, and find happiness in doing His will, will do much to regulate your “wishes” or “desires,” and will at the same time be a reason why the father will be disposed to comply with your requests.

So fret not thyself beloved. Replace worry and envy with a conscious delight in the Lord. When you truly delight in the Lord you will find your heart and desires changed, steadily aligning with God’s own good desires for your life. Finding delight in God is a key to a happy, and satisfied life. Find rest in the truth that God intends to fulfill the desires of your heart, and leave aside worry and envy.
