Great is the faithfulness of God

Lamentations 3:21-25

“But this I recall and therefore have I hope and expectation: It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed because His [tender] compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness. The Lord is my portion or share, says my living being (my inner self); therefore will I hope in Him and wait expectantly for Him.  The Lord is good to those who wait hopefully and expectantly for Him, to those who seek Him [inquire of and for Him and require Him by right of necessity and on the authority of God’s word].”

Like Jeremiah, many of us can say that we’ve had seasons where we forget the faithfulness of God. We go through seasons where our souls sink within us. And like Jeremiah, we too can say we’ve had moments where in the midst of darkness we recalled the faithfulness of God. If you can attest to that, read on.

Say it with me: Through the mercies of the Lord, I have not been consumed. This was one of the things Jeremiah remembered. He remembered that as beat down and as defeated the people of Jerusalem and Judah were, they were not yet completely consumed. There was still a remnant and remnant with a promise of restoration. Wherever there is life, God leaves hope. Read that again.

Maybe you’re not there yet. You’re currently in the fire and you cannot, at this very moment, say with your lips that “Great is the faithfulness of God.” Like Jeremiah, I encourage you to recall what the Lord has done for you; remember His goodness towards you. In moments like these it’s hard to look ahead and find hope, so look back and encourage yourself.

The mercies of God are new every morning; they never run dry. Each dawning day gives mankind hope in fresh mercies and compassions from God. No matter how bad the last day was, you can look to the new morning with faith and hope.

So here’s what you will do: Look back; recall what the Lord has done, and say with me: Great is the faithfulness of God.
