If you haven’t heard the good news, let me tell you what’s new on The Anointed Writer. We just recently launched a safe space for you to share your confessions, thoughts, testimonies and prayer requests and tap into the wealth of knowledge the members of our community possess. So far, submissions have been rolling in but we want to hear your feedback as well. Take a look at this one we received and read on to see my attempt at assisting.
My Response:
I think sometimes as Christians we are so focused on achieving the goal that we don’t factor in the quality of the journey or sustaining the goal. We also tend to think that our ability to think logically and make sound decisions have no place in our obedience and submission to God. That’s mostly due to fear and our lack of confidence in God’s plan for our lives. A scripture I like to make reference to in situations like these is: Psalms 37:4-5. And it reads:
Psalms 37:4-5 King James Version (KJV)
Delight thyself also in the LORD; And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; Trust also in him; And he shall bring it to pass.
Psalms 37:4-5 TPT
Find your delight and true pleasure in YAHWEH, and he will give you what you desire the most. Give God the right to direct your life, and as you trust him along the way, you’ll find he pulled it off perfectly!
Step one
Contrary to popular belief, pursuing your relationship with God wholeheartedly equips you to navigate the pursuit of a marriage relationship with a potential partner. When journeying to the altar, your number one focus should be cultivating an intricate relationship with God where you understand how he leads you. In that pursuit, you are also fully surrendered to God. You are so submitted that whatever He wants for you ultimately becomes what you desire for yourself. I believe that that is your first step to making the right decisions.
Step two
Knowing your identity in Christ and who you are at your core will help you to determine what you desire in a church community and what you require in a spouse. I talk about this in my book Woman or Wife and the accompanying workbook. We are first people before we are servants, spouses, friends, etc. In order to function effectively in these roles, we first have to know who we are as an individual. Spiritually, we must know who we are in Christ and the role we play as a Christian helping to build God’s Kingdom.
Step three
Fast, pray and be practical in your observations. Prayerfully list the characteristics of a good spouse. You can also apply this strategy to that of a church leader/church home. When you observe your spouse or these churches in various contexts, ascertain if they align with scripture. Listen to and observe other people’s encounters or experiences with these people. Do they display a christ-like nature? Don’t be afraid to be practical. At the end of the day, we must endure earth until we make it to heaven. Doing so with God makes enduring earth a whole lot easier.
Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make.
Proverbs 3:5
