Intimacy With The Holy Spirit: Day 3

The time that we are living in calls for knowing the voice of the Holy Spirit. Not knowing His voice could be dangerous. There are so many voices popping up on the scene these days; it’s so easy to be deceived. It is of absolute importance that you know the voice of the Holy Spirit so that you won’t be deceived and led astray. Knowing the voice of the Holy Spirit comes through having an intimate relationship with Him.

Here’s the thing! God,  the Holy Spirit, wants us to know His voice. He is constantly speaking to His people. But too often, we miss out on hearing what he has to say because many of us don’t know His voice and only seek His guidance occasionally. This usually happens when people are going through a crisis or facing a major decision. Then, with a dire need to hear from God, we become confused and frustrated when we don’t clearly hear what we should do. We start to wonder how to hear from God and why we aren’t.

Are you having trouble hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit? You won’t be able to hear or even begin to recognize Him if you don’t know Him. Start by having a relationship with Him. Forget about formulas and gimmicks for hearing from God, and focus instead on developing the kind of relationship with Him that will empower you to hear Him speaking regularly. The closer you get to God, the more you can enjoy ongoing conversations with Him, both listening and hearing from Him.

Isaiah 30:21 says, “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.” This is an amazing promise: The Holy Spirit wants to guide us in what we do, how we live, and where we go. But how can we be certain that the voice we hear is the Holy Spirit and not our own?

Here’s what I have to say:

  1. Start by having a relationship with God, and then allow Him to renew your mind (Romans 12:2). When your mind is renewed, shaped by the word and permeated by the Holy Spirit, you’re able to hear much clearer.
  2. Test everything using the scriptures. Every single thing you hear must line up with the scripture. The bible says that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth (John 16:13). So if what you hear contradicts the word, then it’s not from the Holy Spirit.

As you go throughout the rest of this week, ask the Holy Spirit to draw near to you. Remain open, and ask Him to speak to you. He longs to speak to you more than you can imagine. Go in with an open heart and an open mind.

Prayer:

Father, teach us to discern the Spirit’s voice. We really want to know you and know you deeply. We want to hear your thoughts and your heart. Quiet our minds before you. Open up our hearts to hear you. We seek you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
