Intimacy With The Holy Spirit: Day 4

“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come” John 16:13.

There are many who think their lives will be easier when they get saved, but this is not usually the case. In fact, we may experience even more challenges and problems. That’s when we start wondering where God is or why He isn’t answering our prayers as we hoped. If we don’t know which way to turn, we might begin to feel overwhelmed and alone. But if we’ve accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, we are never truly alone because we have been promised a Helper to dwell within us—the Holy Spirit.

When Jesus was leaving His disciples He made a promise to send a Helper to them, and He did. Jesus said to them, “When he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come” John 16:13. He comes to guide [us] into all truth. The closer and more intimate we become with the Holy Spirit, the more simple will His illumination and guiding be. Our Helper is also our Guide. He comes to guide us into all truth about Jesus Christ, and our lives. He comes as a Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ, to enlighten the eyes of our understanding with the truth.

He helps us discern what is true and guides us in making the right decisions. Instead of seeking other people’s advice, we should first ask the Holy Spirit to direct us. With the Holy Spirit leading and guiding us we can never go wrong, because as John 16:13 says, “He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what he hears.” What better leader do we need in our lives?

Do you depend on the Holy Spirit to guide you? Do you trust Him enough to lead you into all truth? Do you depend on Him to help you make the right decisions?

I know for sure that the Holy Spirit is trustworthy, but from experience, you cannot trust someone you don’t know. That’s not only ridiculous, it’s also very dangerous. Like a parent always tells their child, “Don’t trust a stranger,” I would probably tell that to my child as well. Why? Because that’s called taking a safety precaution. Think about the world we are living in… I know you agree with the fact that we can’t trust strangers, but I dare say to you now, the Holy Spirit can be trusted. If he is a stranger (someone you don’t know) to you, then get to know Him. He’s the best leader I know.

Question for reflection: How can you get to know the Holy Spirit more, and learn to trust His guidance and leadership?
