How to remember that you are not alone

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

Deuteronomy 31:6 is a very good reminder for those of you who may be doubting God’s promise to be with you always. You may feel abandoned and like you really don’t know what you’re doing, but the greatest thing is that there’s grace and you’re not alone.

If you woke up today feeling as though nothing makes sense, be reminded that God commands your confident trust in Him. The truth is that very often, even I have a hard time taking God at His word; but If God says it, that settles it! I’ve come to realise that there’s absolutely no reason to doubt God because He’s a man of His word. God is not like man. When we promise “always” or “never” we are incapable of upholding it. Thus the infamous saying, “never say never!” However, when God promises “always” or “never” He can be fully trusted to honour His word (Numbers 23:19).

In a world that encourages you to believe in yourself and to achieve all you deserve, it’s paramount to understand who and Whose you are—you are a child of The Most High God, and today I want to encourage you to strengthen your trust and faith in Him. Live like you know that God will not leave you. Live like you know that you will not be forsaken.

I don’t know what is causing you to doubt God’s promise to you, but you can trust that He is there. Emmanuel is His name, and that means “God with us”. That is enough for you to be strong and courageous. That is enough for you to trust in His provisional hand on your life.

May your courage and trust be rooted in God’s strength; when you are weak He is strong (2 Corinthians 12:10b). May your anxieties be lifted, and may the peace of God that transcends all understanding fill your heart.
