There’s just one chief end to man’s purpose, One main reason for existence. All man’s vain and high ambitions, will one day be brought low, will one day be brought low.

To treasure You above all others, to love You like we love no other. Your greatness soon will be uncovered, and all the earth will then know, and all the earth will then know.

All is for Your glory, all is for Your name, all is for Your glory. That in all things You may have first place. That in all things You may have the preeminence. So put me anywhere, just put Your glory in me. I’ll serve anywhere, just let me see Your beauty.

Above are the verse and chorus of a song entitled “All is for your glory”. It talks about man’s main reason for existing: to love, glorify and give honour to God. Before anything else; work, church, family; our businesses, marriages, friendships; before all that we give attention to, we were made to treasure Him and love like no other.

O that our lives and our pursuits would align with God’s purpose for creating us. O that our hearts would intertwine with His. O that we would realise that it is a fearful thing to be at cross-purposes with our maker! O that we would daily live like we know the purpose of God and feel ourselves wholeheartedly in harmony with it.

What a beautiful thing it is to know God’s ultimate goal for the creation and discovering how to bring our hearts and our behaviour into alignment with that goal. God created us for his glory. Our existence was planned and conceived and achieved because God wanted to get the glory for his name through us.

May we align our lives with God’s eternal goal; be is image-bearers, multiply and fill the earth so that the knowledge of His glory would cover the sea and the whole earth.
