The Art of Being Careful

Fortunately and unfortunately, social media has become an outlet for all; giving a platform for opinions to be shared and views to be heard. For all intents and purposes, social media has become a powerful, positive tool and a negative one all the same.

It is as complex as it sounds. While many are using the tool for good, others are completely unaware of the blaring effects of their misuse of words, thoughts, and opinions. As a result, relationships are suffering, the world’s view of the church has strengthened in its hatred, and the body is being more confused than it is being edified.

Might I share with you a reminder? That it is important and wise to be careful with our words; how we share our thoughts and opinions? Words have power. They have the ability to speak life and to speak evil. They possess the ability to deceive and to edify.

“Gentle words bring life and health; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.”

Proverbs 15:4

Let us employ the art of being careful with our words by following these three steps and employing these scriptures:

  1. Watch your lips
Psalm 141:3 NLT – Take control of what I say, O Lord and guard my lips.
  2. Watch your eyes
1 Peter 5:8-9 NLT – Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.
  3. Watch your ears
Proverbs 18:15 NLT – Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge.

What we see and hear influence how we think and by extension, how we speak. Out of the abundance of the heart; the mouth speaks. Let us submit our eyes, ears, heart, and lips to the Father that his thoughts may flow through us.
