The issues challenging our faith as Christians: Persecution

Persecution against Christianity worldwide is intensifying, with Christian women being the most vulnerable. Christians are murdered every single day because of their faith.

With all of this, it is vitally important that we as Christians remember the words of Apostle Paul, a man who was falsely accused, imprisoned and regularly beaten because of his faith (Acts 21, 2 Corinthians 11): “…we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).

What Christians are experiencing now is what we have always been experiencing. Satan, our enemy is raging and celebrating as evil truly infiltrate the hearts and minds of this present age. As hearts and minds continue to be infiltrated with evil; know that as a representative of Christ you will face persecution. We are called to be salt and light in this evil age, but the enemy does not want that. John 3:20 says, “Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.” Try exposing the evil deeds of men and you will be met with resistance and persecution.

Clothe yourselves, brethren, with the armour of God. Ephesians chapter 6 continues by instructing Christians to clothe themselves with the armour of God. Clothe yourselves with the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness and shoes fitted with the Gospel; and in all circumstances taking up the shield of faith, wearing the helmet of salvation and wielding the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.

In light of all that God has done for you; In light of the glorious standing you have as a child of God, and His great plan of the ages that God has made you part of – strengthen yourselves in the Lord, and commit to growing in your faith.

You are going to experience persecution in this life, but you don’t have to be discouraged—Jesus overcame the world. Satan’s schemes against you can come to nothing when you stand against them in the power of God. So put on your whole armour so that you can stand against the wiles of the enemy. And when persecution comes knocking on your door, remember that the bible tells us that, “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:10).
