Say yes and use what you have

10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 4:10-11

There is a lie that flows from lines of procrastination and distraction which says we have to figure it all out before we begin. While that would be ideal, it isn’t practical. If we were to wait for all the tools to be laid out before we begin working on the assignments we’ve been given; we’d be wasting precious time. If I am certain of nothing, I am certain that God responds to faith. Jesus himself declares in Matthew 17:20 that if you have faith even as small as a mustard seed nothing will be impossible for you.

As I prepare this devotional to you, the words are ministering to me. I’ve found myself battling fear, low confidence in my ability to execute the assignments, and apprehension to what God might say to the point where I struggle to speak to Him. What a confession but I believe God works through my transparency. And it isn’t even a case where I think He’s going to say anything bad; it’s the bold, grand, requests He makes of me that shakes me to my bones. Me? Do what now?

I’ve learned over the years that it’s best to say yes shaking rather than doing nothing at all. God responds to action. He’s waiting on us to trust Him and make the move.

It’s never easy walking in obedience. God always calls us to do things that we can’t accomplish in our own strength. Hence why we will always need to rely on Him. We will never have all that we desire to have before we take the first step. However, we will have what we need and that’s God walking with us and helping us to develop our faith to support our yes.

Will you go with what you have and say yes today? If you’re ready, type YES in the comments so that we can pray for you. As I go, I’m reminded of how Abraham used what he had in his sacrifice. Though the story in Genesis 22 is often told from the perspective of obedience, I want to highlight how God gave instruction and Abraham was willing to sacrifice all he had as a son. When Abraham got in position, God gave him to right tools for the act of obedience. Not only did Abraham walk in obedience, he proved that he feared God.

Sometimes the request is just a test to see where our heart is in Him. Say yes. Think less. Use what you have.
