What is your Heart Posture in times of trouble

The posture of our hearts during times of trouble is very important to God. When I say posture, what I am referring to isn’t physical posture — not the ‘straighten your back or lift your chin’ posture. What I mean is the inner attitude of the heart.

The Israelites are a people God chose for himself. He took them out of captivity, and He provided for them. But they turned against Him. Every time their feet got stuck in the mud, they threw accusations at Him, and they even went as far as to worship idols. Nothing the Lord did for them in the past mattered to them in their times of distress! How is it that they so quickly forgot the goodness of God?

Let’s now look at our lives when we go through our wilderness experiences. How is your heart before the Lord when you are going through the fire? Do you forget all that you learned during your mountain top experiences? Do you turn away from Him and go back to what’s “easier” and familiar? What is your perception of God like during those times?

What I’ve come to realise is that most, if not all, challenges I face have an underlying goal—to skew my perception of God’s righteousness, goodness, faithfulness, and love. But when I practice what I have learned, I find strength, grace and renewed hope—And they always carry me to the end.

During times of trouble, it is so important that we maintain a humble posture before the Lord. We have to remember, as 1 Peter 5:5b reiterates, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Look at Jesus, and then reflect his posture. His posture was one of humility before His Father. When we take a humble posture before God, we align ourselves with His will—to refine our characters, strengthen our faith, and produce seasons of abundant fruit in our lives.

Spiritual pride is an attitude that God despises. Let us, therefore, embrace a posture of dependence upon God. Let us, in times of trouble, acknowledge that we can do nothing in our own strength, and then ask him to move our mountains. When we do this, our perspective is altered; we can say that God is good, and we can resist the enemy and his lies.

Our heart posture matters. So, let’s invite the Lord to check our posture. What is the attitude and posture of your heart? What perspective do you have of God? Ask him to align your heart with Him and His will for you. Surrender and submit to His counsel.
