“And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified” – Romans 8:30.
What Is Justification?
As it is used herein Romans 8:30, it refers to the declaration of God to a repentant sinner that all his sins are forgiven, he is acquitted, the wrath of the judge is removed, and he stands righteous before God. God announces that something has been taken away and something has been added. Sins have been taken away. And new righteousness has been given. Justification for you is the announcement to you who accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and saviour, that your sins are not counted against you, but the righteousness of God is counted for you. You are forgiven, acquitted, justified, no longer under the mountain of God’s wrath, but now standing on the mountain of his righteousness.
Even after this revelation, you may still ask, “How can God simply drop the charges against me? On what basis can he simply turn his wrath away from me?” The answer is that it was not simple for Him! It cost him his Son Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:21 puts it this way, “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” God gave His Son over to death so that in Him you would be righteous before Him. Jesus is the basis of your justification. What an amazing thing God did for you and me? Because of this, we can go about our daily lives with the assurance that absolutely nothing can separate us from His great love.
Your debt was paid for when Jesus died on that cross. The wrath of God against you was appeased and averted not by your faith but by the death of His Son. That day you surrendered all attempts at self-justification and trusted in Christ alone, that was the day heaven made the announcement: not guilty. Woman, you have been justified so surrender all attempts to justify yourself before God, and just accept the finished work of your justification.
God called you to Himself, made you new, and now He’s saying that those who he calls He justifies. YOU ARE JUSTIFIED! My prayer for you is that you will rest in the truth of who you are in Christ Jesus. You are who God says you are and nothing less! No demon from hell can change the way your Heavenly Father sees you! Walk in your God-given identity, and plant your feet firmly in it.
