Your Life is Not Your Own

In what part of your life have you forgotten that your life is not your own? What part do you need to surrender to your Creator – the one who holds the blueprint of your life in his hands?

If you are a Christian, I know that you know that you are not your own. So why ask these questions? There are times when what we do exposes what we truly believe. The questions aren’t an exercise in shaming but they do call for an honest assessment of your life. With God’s wonderful grace in mind, you can take a good, honest look at yourself and ask: do I really believe that I am not my own?

Beloved, ask yourself these questions:

  • Am I holding onto things God is asking me to release?
  • Am I fighting to control what happens in my life?
  • Am I walking in disobedience because I have little faith in God’s plans for my life?
  • Have I taken matters into my own hands because I am tired of doing things God’s way?
  • Am in pursuit of dreams outside of God’s will for my life?
  • There is absolutely nothing wrong with pursuing my dreams, but have I gone down the pathway that says: I no longer have to lean on God because I know what I am doing?
  • Am I discontented because I believe that I should be further along in life?
  • What things am I racing to get because I believe they will help me to live an abundant life?
  • How am I comparing my life to someone else’s life?

Once you’ve done your evaluation and realize that there are parts of your life that you need to surrender to God, turn and remember Him. Make the change, commit to living in a way that says: I am totally surrendered to God; withholding nothing from Him. I am at his disposal; to do anything he wants at any cost. I desire to do everything in the power that he supplies, so that in everything he gets the glory. Even when I am in pursuit of my dreams; I am careful to always come back to the center, ensuring that I am in alignment with Him.

Remember that God is your shepherd (Psalm 23). Remember that he will never leave or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6-8). Remember that God will always sustain you (Psalm 62:1-2). Remember that you need not worry about the future (Matthew 6:25-34). Remember that he will provide all that you need according to his riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Remember that God knows how your life will play out (Isaiah 46:10).
