Sisterhood: Day 2

For those of you who have really entered into a true spirit-filled, fully-surrendered walk with the Lord you would know that where God is taking you not everyone can go. One of the first things that you will find happening is that God will start to prune out the people that He does not want in your life and start to bring in the people that He does want in your life. How do I know this? The friends I used to have then I don’t have now. It’s not to say that they were “bad” friends. It simply means that I needed to be surrounded by people who are headed in the same direction that the Lord is taking me.

The Scriptures tell us that we should choose our friends very carefully in this life. He who walks with wise people will become wise himself, but that he who keeps company with fools will be destroyed. Proverbs 13:20. God wants you to have friends, especially the ones you call sisters, who are wise because this will greatly impact your success. Your chosen sisters should be wise and have mastered the art of living God’s way. You want to surround yourself with the kind of people who are wise, mature, competent, and skilled at the craft of life.

Surrounding yourself with wise, godly sisters is crucial for living a fruitful Christian life. One of the main ways women learn how to be godly women is from other godly women! I have learned so much about womanhood, and how to carry myself with grace from other women.  These women are not afraid to call me out when I’m wrong, cheer me on when I’m winning, and pray for me when I’m down. My ability to live out my own call to love others and to grow in holiness is greatly enhanced because of their example and support.

Many women are failing now because they are either surrounded by ungodly friendships or they have isolated themselves because they think that having friends is just not for them. The bible tells us that “iron sharpens iron.” Just like one piece of iron can make the other piece of iron extremely sharp by rubbing up against it – you and another solid Christian friend can also have the same type of positive effect on one another by sharing their own personal walks in the Lord with one other.

God knows best! He knows who will be best suited for you at your current level of spiritual development with Him – so let Him guide you to the ones that He will want you to connect with. I have seen God do this so many times for others, that I literally consider it a miraculous piece of work – especially as to how He gets you to meet some of these people in the first place.

Question for reflection:

  1. Are you surrounded with wise and godly sisters; the kind that God desires for you to have in your life. If no, what will you do about that?
