5 Reasons Women Should Activate Community in 2024

For many women like myself, the peak covid years 2020-2021 came and rocked the world as we knew it. Isolation became the theme of life and many looked around to discover that they were more alone than they could have imagined.

As a millennial who frequently interacts with members of GenZ, I’ve noticed a tendency to overlook the importance of human connection. It’s all too easy to fall into the trap of self-reliance, believing we can navigate life’s challenges solo.

However, I’m here to emphasise that true fulfilment doesn’t stem from isolation. We thrive in community; it’s an integral part of our human experience, essential for genuine joy and meaningful connections.

I spent the earlier part of my years with the mindset that people were disposable. A meaningful connection or friendship was not something I wanted with any other individual. It was normal for me to have shallow connections, basic conversations, and put zero effort into cultivating relationships with others. As I delved deeper into my relationship with God, I realized the true value of connecting with others. While initially a safety mechanism, I came to understand that genuine fulfillment comes from embracing community. The reality is, a truly fulfilling life is incomplete without the support and camaraderie of others.

Since 2019, I’ve been on my community-building journey where I make an intentional effort to cultivate and nurture meaningful relationships in my life. Here are five lessons I learned along the way that you can use to activate your community in 2024:

5 Reasons Women Should Activate Community in 2024

Community Strengthens & Supports

Building a strong community network provides a foundation of support that empowers women to thrive. By surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals who share similar goals and values, you can find encouragement, advice, and assistance in navigating life’s challenges. Whether it’s seeking career advice, emotional support, or practical help, a supportive community offers strength in numbers and fosters a sense of belonging.

Community prepares and empowers you for the future

Engaging with a community allows you to invest in your personal growth and development. Through shared experiences, mentorship, and learning opportunities, you can gain valuable insights, acquire new skills, and broaden your perspectives. By actively participating in your community, you become equipped with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in an ever-changing world, setting yourself up for success both now and in the future.

God moves through your community

Community serves as a conduit for divine intervention and spiritual growth.

As women come together in faith-based communities, they create an environment where God’s presence is palpable, and His guidance is felt. Through prayer, fellowship, and shared worship experiences, you can deepen your spiritual connections and experience the transformative power of God working through your community, providing comfort, guidance, and strength.

Community affirms your identity

Within a supportive community, women are celebrated for who they are, affirming their unique identities and worth. By surrounding yourself with individuals who value and appreciate you, you can develop a sense of self-confidence and self-worth. Through positive affirmation and encouragement from your community, you can embrace your strengths, overcome insecurities, and confidently pursue your goals and dreams.

Community is a Safe Space

In a world filled with uncertainty and adversity, community offers a safe haven where you can freely express yourself, share your struggles, and find acceptance without judgment. By fostering an environment of trust, empathy, and mutual respect, you can lean on your community for emotional support, validation, and healing. Whether facing life’s triumphs or tribulations, you can find solace and strength within the comforting embrace of your community.

In today’s social climate, it’s understandable that community and connections beyond romantic relationships may not be at the forefront of everyone’s minds. However, I want to encourage you to consider being the difference. As it’s said in Matthew 18:20, “Where two or three are gathered together in God’s name, there He is in the midst of them.” God dwells among community, and He moves with order and agreement.

If you yearn for the richness of Godly friendships, I urge you to seek Him. Ask Him to prepare you while He simultaneously prepares a community for you. There are individuals out there whom you haven’t yet met, but they are ready to embrace and love you. Trust in Him to lead you to those who are eagerly waiting to be blessed by your presence.
