Money is not your motivator

is money your motivator on the anointed writer

Hello my beautiful reader. I am here to remind you that money is not your motivator. I forgot this bit of information for a while and got caught up in the new trend of moneymaking. Trend? It seems like one. Wherever you go there is another scheme helping you to “make money fast”. God reminded me that while it is okay to make money, it is not okay to become a slave to money.

Let’s get personal…

Recently, I was feeling depressed over my financial reality. I don’t throw the word depressed around. I saw my last paycheck and cried in pain because of the reality of it.

God placed me in a job to carry out work for his kingdom. Although the job is glamorous, high stress and fun; it doesn’t pay enough. Thankfully, I have a “side hustle” to supplement my salary. But, I was so focused on money that it affected my mood.

“I want to go on vacations and adventures but I can’t afford it”. “I want to buy items I want but don’t need but I can’t”. That makes me sad. I cried and whined, “why can’t I?” We’re human right?

The reminder

But God reminded me that he sent me to that job for a purpose. And that purpose manifests itself each day. I am operating in obedience and obedience isn’t always glamorous, high profile or comfortable. Can you image the hard labour David had to do before he was sought out to be king?

The training ground is oftentimes the least fulfilling based on the world’s definition of fulfillment. However, obedience facilitates the greatest level of fulfillment there is.

I began to lose sight of my purpose there at that job and began focusing on satisfying my worldly desires.

The Revelation… Money is not your motivator.

Then God revealed that I wasn’t in lack or need. I was in greed. Never did I suffer because of a limited amount of money. God always provided for me. I looked around me and realized just how blessed I am.

When I left university I was home and out of a job. I didn’t have money outside of what my side hustle provided. I didn’t have a steady flow of a large number of clients. But, my needs were taken care of. I was living in my parents’ house with a beautiful degree in Media & Communications praying for a job. I always wanted to leave my parents’ house before I get married. The job came but the pay wasn’t enough. God saw my heart and made a way.

Provision

I remember praying one day and God revealed to me that I was going to move into a particular house by a specific time at little to no cost to me. The moment I got that word, naturally I assessed the situation. “My reality will never be able to facilitate this.” I thought. Someone was living in the house at the time and wasn’t leaving anytime soon. Would you believe that in just a few months, I was asked to occupy that house at little to no cost to me? That’s the awesome power of God’s provision.

In my recent moments of despair, God reminded me of how Elijah was hid and fed by ravens in his obedience. (1 Kings 17) I had to repent and surrender my heart and thoughts to God. God has never failed me. The more I assess my life, the more I realize that I am indeed blessed and favoured by God.

Moving Forward

Have you been in greed? Talk to God about it. Allow Him to live up to the name Jehovah Jireh. In order for his provision to flow in your life, you must be at a place of total surrender walking in obedience.

What has God asked you to do? Who are you supposed to be praying for? Are you running away from a place of surrender and obedience because of discomfort?

Proverbs 3:5-8 New Living Translation (NLT)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.

Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
